As businesses increasingly turn to artificial intelligence (AI) to drive innovation and growth, a key question remains: how can organizations harness the power of AI to unlock new insights and drive value?

At the recent, IBM Unlocking Value with AI event, Taylor Owen, Director, Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy, McGill University and Host of The Globe and Mail’s "Machines Like Us" podcast sat down with Rob Dunlap, Partner and Generative AI Practice Leader - IBM Consulting Canada to discuss on the current state of AI adoption and its potential applications in Canadian businesses.

According to Dunlop, clients are eager to understand the use cases of generative AI and how it can help to rapidly demonstrate value. He highlighted three key areas where generative AI is being applied: customer service, digital labour, and policy and procedure documentation.

Dunlap’s team at IBM's Center of Excellence for Generative AI is focused on helping clients navigate through the complexities of AI adoption and staying ahead of the curve. He emphasized the importance of governance and trust in delivering successful AI solutions, highlighting the potential pitfalls of predictive systems that can provide misleading or inaccurate information.

When asked about the future of generative AI, Dunlop expressed excitement about democratizing access to AI tools, making them available to anyone in an organization, not just data scientists. He believes this could lead to a huge productivity boost, as non-technical employees are able to automate tasks, gain insights, and inform business decisions. With AI, the possibilities are endless, and it's up to businesses to harness its power to drive innovation and growth.
